SALT LAKE CITY AIRPORT BUSINESS, YOUR PLANET, CAPTURES NATIONAL AWARD FOR BEING GREEN

Salt Lake City—Your Planet, the Salt Lake City International Airport-based retail business, has been presented with the first Best “Green” Concession Practice or Concept Award by Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA).
     Your Planet is part of the locally owned family company, Air Terminal Gifts.  Air Terminal Gifts currently operates 16 stores within the Salt Lake International Airport.
     The ACI-NA award was part of the organization’s 2007 Concessions Contest.  The category won by Your Planet honors a practice being applied or a single concession unit operating at an airport that supports the protection and sustainability of the environment.  Salt Lake International Airport nominated Your Planet for the award. 
     The award was presented last week in Chicago at the ACI-NA’s Airport Concessions Conference.
     Judges for the contest noted, “Your Planet is a locally owned concept whose objective is to promote a lifestyle of social responsibility, to offer sustainable alternatives to the consumer, and to allow consumers to become part of the solution to our growing global troubles.  Your Planet sells apparel, accessories, jewelry, photography, personal care products, books and various home décor and gifts that are made from recycled, organic, natural and renewable resources, just to name a few.  The store is organized into non-conventional product headings such as recycled, wildlife, nature, organic, etc.  Your Planet is also recognized with this ‘Green’ award for using as many renewable resources, such as bamboo, where possible, in the design of the store.”
     Your Planet was launched in 1999, and was the brainchild of Air Terminal Gifts President/CEO Kathy Crismon.  “I have a strong belief in protecting our natural resources, and I recognized there are very few retail outlets anywhere—not to mention within airports—that are really emphasizing conservation.  Your Planet is really intended to remind people about how precious the planet earth is, and how we should really try to protect it for generations to come,” she said.
     The 889-square-foot Your Planet store is located in Terminal 2 of the Salt Lake City International Airport.
